Love is…
by ~Luke Whitaker
Love can hurt you badly
But can also show true splendour
Love is longing to hold him again
Love is the roses he sends her
Love is the look I see in your eyes
Like red bull it gives you wings
Love is the perfect moments you share
Love is all the little things
Love is the smile as she approaches
Love is when the butterflies start
Love is the contentment on her face
Love is the flutter from both their hearts
Love is the squeal she cannot suppress
Love is running fingers through her hair
Love is when they look into each others eyes
And know they will always care
Love is like a warm blanket at night
Love is the courage to give it a shot
Love is feeling safe no matter what
Love is what they have got…
Heroes
by ~ Luke Whitaker
Put away your silly little fairy-tales
They are filled only with romance and lies
We wade through all the trials of this world
Haunted by so many tormented cries
Our armour is never shining
More likely caked in dried on mud
How easily your romanticism overlooks
The way our hands are drenched in blood
Our gleaming swords are too often drawn
You do not wish us to show a single flaw
All of you seem to cry out for Heroes
Do you even know what you want us for?
It is for all of you we go through all of this
It is our fate to walk a path through Hell
We counsel you when you have need
We listen to secrets we can never tell
And in our quest to keep you all safe
We see so much no human should face
Who is there for us when we want a hero?
Nightmares of memories we can never erase
It is we who are doomed to lose our rest
So you can sleep snug and soundly at night
It is our worlds that are forever darkened
So that your horizons are occasionally bright
How many of you ever stop and think
What a hero’s life is like to live?
To forever watch as so many take
Yet still being resigned only to give
To know the worst of what we’ve done
To keep track of the body count over the years
Having to look at ourselves in the mirror
To exist in a state between anger and tears
Eternally we seem to suffer the injustice
Listening to you tell us your lives are unfair
Well did you ever for a moment think about us?
Do any of you have it in you to care?
Yet still we never question the point
Never once do we falter in our task
And for all your sakes we hide the pain
A smile that acts as torment’s mask
We are left with so very little in life
Yet always we find in us the will to fight
All of you content to do so much wrong
Without a second thought to we who put it right
We never let you see us wounded
When so much fighting leaves us hurt
We leave you your illusions of us
You do not see us face down in the dirt
Yet occasionally one of you pauses
One who does not just walk on by
One who doesn’t care if we always succeed
Who thinks its enough that we still try
they reach out their hand to pull us up
help us back to our feet once more
they do not care that they have seen us fall
and these are the people we are fighting for
Always we stand here on the edge of night
Ready to help you whenever you have need
And perhaps years from now our tales will be told
And then we will forever be heroes indeed
